AGRICULTURAL INNOVATIONS

[BIZ: Maastricht, May 2]
The Agrarian Innovation Service point, SAI, has concluded that innovative agrarian developments have surged in the 2006/2007 period. The SAI is intended to assist agrarian business in the development of project ideas. The SAI partners include the province, municipalities and the agricultural associations. In the past there has been little innovation; but, since 2006, the number of developed projects has been more than 50% above expectation, and demands are increasing which gives new opportunities for the South Limburg countryside.

Six projects were most conspicuous and there are some 70 ideas that have been proposed. Examples of the new ideas are in new marketing systems for beef; the applications of new technologies in arable farming; and the production of sustainable energy from agricultural products. The SAI is implemented by PPO and Arvalis. For more information the following address can be contacted: ljongen@arvalis.nl
