DETECTING RADIATION

[BIZ: Jülich, May 2]
The start-up company GründerStart GmbH has a stake in SEMIKON Detector GmbH, a start-up from the Jülich Research Center. The new company based in Jülich develops and produces custom-made detectors and detector systems for ionizing radiation based on semi-conductors. Users of these systems are, in the first instance, international research organizations that have already used these detectors in groundbreaking events in the past. They can also be used in security and medical technology, for example in detecting the presence of radioactive materials on the basis of their radiation.

As a result of the growth in the need for security and campaigns against terror, SEMIKON is entering a growth market.

In medical technology, the detectors can play a role in cancer therapy but also in radiation diagnostics, radiation therapy and nuclear medicine. The company produces custom-made equipment for the purposes required by the customers. Its presence at the research center in Jülich has been of great benefit.
