SHOPPING IN HEERLEN
[BIZ: Heerlen, April 25] There has been a rise in the appreciation of the generally pleasant atmosphere in contradistinction to the situation two years ago. Most of the visitors who come to Heerlen come for fun shopping, as it were. But of all the shopping centers, Heerlen center scores best on the number of shoppers that come from outside their own city region to actually buy something. Fashionable items are rated at 61% and then household effects, drugstore products, furnishings and food are also mentioned. Most money is expended on furniture (74%). Do-It-Yourself and gardening rates 24% and other domestic purchases rate at 29%.
Two years ago Heerlen scored well as a shopping center in the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion. The Woonboulevard in Heerlen was in second place as the most-often visited shopping center in the Euroregion, followed by the center of Heerlen, whose attractions were both the number of shops and their quality, as well as easy access by car and public transport.
