FP7 AACHEN/NRW

[BIZ/HI-TECH: Aachen, April 20]
The Aachen region is going to play an exemplary role in the new FP7 EU funding program. A lot of money is involved; through 2013 this will amount to EUR 1.3bn in the EU for innovative, future-oriented structuring of economic development. Objective 2 Funding is EUR 700m, INTERREG with cross-border projects in the German-Dutch-Belgium area is EUR 140m, EUR 72m of which will go to the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion.

Funding for European agricultural activities is a focal issue in the countryside at EUR 250m and for the Objective 2 of the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRD) with EUR 1.3bn volume.

This makes it the largest economic funding program that Brussels has ever provided for North-Rhine Westphalia. Taking into account the national contributions and co-financing, the sum comes up to around EUR 4bn.

In the new structure, the Aachen development company AGIT and REGIO Aachen e.V. will be working closely together. The achievement of the Aachen city region, or urban conurbation, in 2009 is also a major objective for the city.
