[BIZ: The Hague/Maastricht, April 5]
The Minister of Economic Affairs, Maria van der Hoeven is prepared to give Scheuten Solar from Venlo a subsidy of EUR 22.5m for the establishment of a major solar panel plant at the cross-border business park of Avantis in Heerlen. The subsidy is made up of a regional component of around EUR 14m, EUR 5m for research and development and several million for training. The company is not going to take the decision immediately, because it also has received an offer from Gelsenkirchen in Germany to build the plant there. There is also interest in Lommel in Belgium. The plant is expected to cost EUR 150m and will soon provide 600 jobs.
