MARIANNE DE CRISTAL

[BIZ: Liège, April 2]
On March 27 in the Provincial Palace in Liège, the twelfth edition of the business prize — presented each year to one business from the provinces of Liège and Luxembourg that has been most successful in commercial activity with France — was awarded. This gala evening was a great success and the winner in a field of 11 high quality contestants, chosen by an independent jury, was Beldico.

Messrs René Ghesquière, of the French Department of Economics and Business, and Michel Foret, Governor of the Province of Liège, were able to present the prize to the company’s CEO Daniel Hornüng.

Beldico was second runner-up in 2005 and runner-up in 2006. The company is based in Marche-en-Famenne, and since 1987 it’s been producing one-way medical devices. Based on several years of development, it’s become the European leader in one-way baby bottles and sells 20 million per annum. It also sells 80% of its products on the French market. The Company’s revenues, including those of its subsidiaries, today has reached EUR 12m, 70% of which comes from exports. It won the Walloon Export prize in November 2006.

The three runners-up in 2007 were Spacebel, the Walloon space center in Angleur, the Emond d’Arlon BMW Garage in Arlon which extends its network into the north of France (Saint-Quentin and Soissons), and HerbalGem from Vielsalm, a European specialist in Gemmotherapy - a therapeutic method that uses plant bud extracts and other young vegetable tissue freshly harvested from the live growing plant to stimulate elimination of toxic compounds from the body.

During the course of the evening, a second trophy, the Mérite de Cristal, was awarded to the Champagne/Ardennes region and placed in the hands of Jean-Paul Bachy, its president. This is an area that has done a great deal in fostering business cooperation.
