TECHSPACE AERO

[BIZ/SCI-TECH: Herstal, March 21]
An F16 landed in Herstal at Techspace Aero — it’s at the entrance to their premises. The aircraft is one of the 116 ordered by the Belgian Air Force in 1976, which has now been withdrawn from service. The F16 is interesting as a monument to Techspace Aero’s technology because Techspace has assembled the engines (Pratt & Whitney F100) for 600 of these aircraft and provided maintenance for more than 5,000 engines in the context of a relationship with 14 air forces throughout the world. It is a monument to the skills of Techspace Aero.

The F16 was developed by General Dynamics (bought by Lockheed Martin in 1993). It is the product of the YF-16, a US fighter aircraft, and the first of the model type on view came into service in 1978, powered by the Pratt & Whitney F100 PW-200 turbo jet.
