NONOX MOTOR ADVANCES

[BIZ: Avantis, November 24]
Limburg development company LIOF has decided to make EUR 600,000 available for innovative, environment-friendly and economic NONOX natural gas engines. The sum will be invested in the development of an installation for an engine management system for the first tests on the test track. The engine will be built into trucks.

LIOF’s contribution will be on the basis of support and will also be assisted by the Province of Limburg and the Municipality of Heerlen. The first phase in the development requires a sum of EUR 1m. The current project is a four-phase project: the first phase is the development of the engine, which is completed; phase two is the development of the engine management system and testing of the vehicle. The engine will be put into a truck so that it can be tested. In phase three approval is the focus, and in phase four there will be a decision on production.

NONOX is part of the new energy cluster of the Province’s Acceleration Agenda. The natural gas engine is an alternative to traditional diesel engines. It has advantages in the area of energy consumption and is less expensive. The objective is that the engines will be built at Avantis, between Heerlen and Aachen, when it’s taken into production.
