LIEGE EXPORT PRIZES

The Walloon Foreign Trade Agency’s(AWEX) Export Grand Prix award ceremony for the Walloon Region was held on November 14, for the tenth time, in the presence of HRH Philippe of Belgium.

The Grand Prix went to the IRM Group (www.irmgroup.info), which is a recognized leader in industrial measurement for the metals industry and combines industry experience, superior engineering and a worldwide customer focus, particularly in the steel and aluminum business. Orders for IRM Group gauges have increased 220% over the last two years. The group is based at Alleur.

The Grand Prix for Export within Europe went to Anthea Languages (www.anthealanguages.com) in Liège. The award was for the rapid development of the company’s international activities over the last three years and, in particular, for the success of its subsidiary, that began doing business in France six years ago in the Sophia Antipolis Science Park. Founded in 1993, the company is a pioneer in using Internet technologies and the electronic exchange of documents. Figures show an increase in sales by 145% in the 2003-2005 period, in which exports tripled. The company has also renewed its ISO9001:2000 certification for the seventh consecutive year.

Another prize to the Province of Liège went to Chimac-Agriphar (www.agriphar.com) in Ougrée. Agriphar is a specialist in pest control in the agricultural sector and received the award for its growth figures. Over the last three years, there has been an increase of 23%, and 90% of its products produced in Belgium are exported to more than 130 countries, 60% within Europe. Considerable investment in modern technology is planned for the next three years to grow the company further. It specializes it herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and growth regulators for plants, but can also help with animal pests.
