INTERNED NEWS

[BIZ/GOV:Düsseldorf, November 8]
The business newsletter covering relations between The Netherlands and North-Rhine Westphalia covers the following issues in its most recent version.

1. Economic growth in Germany is surprising experts. According to them it will be 2.3% for 2006 and a further 1.4% is forecast for 2007. This means that the Federal Republic has outdone the forecasts of the experts. Positive developments will also have an effect on the labor market. In 2007 the number of unemployed is set to fall to 4.3 million.

2. Doing business in Germany and the issue of General Terms and Conditions are discussed. General terms and conditions ensure that legal relationships are organized in a uniform and detailed way. The question for Dutch business people is whether they have to observe the German terms and conditions or whether they can rely on Dutch versions. The newsletter gives information on that.

3. It also informs us that Germany has now passed the law on the electronic commercial register and company register, called EHUG on the basis of its German acronym. It was passed on September 28 and is going to lead to a fundamental modernization in respect of the exchange of business information. Cost is being reduced, red tape is being reduced, the processes are being accelerated and setting up a business is going to be much easier, which means a chance for innovation.

4. VAT and Dutch business. The tax authorities in the German city of Cleeves have issued an Internet link www.finanzamt-kleve.de, which gives extensive information on VAT for Dutch businesses. If you are not able to find an answer to your individual question at the link, you can contact the tax department in Cleeves in the brochure ‘Living in The Netherlands, Working in Germany’.

5. Bad Weather Payments. Construction workers in Germany will be entitled to bad weather payments if their activities are hindered by the weather. This is also part of new German legislation.

6. There are problems in connection with starting a Camping Site in Germany. and those interested in this type of activity should consult the construction regulations.
