ABP CEO DIES

[BIZ: Heerlen, November 4]
John Neervens (60), the CEO of the Dutch Civil Service Pension Fund ABP, died on November 2. Mr Neervens started with the ABP in 1994 as CEO and went through the transition of the ABP from being an extension of government to an independent foundation with an adequate financial basis for the pensions of more than 2.5 million civil servants. In recent years he was lobbying for a new role for the ABP: to add, in addition to collective pensions, lifetime, custom made and flexible pensions.

The ABP, which has EUR 200bn in pension capital and disperses EUR 5.2bn in pensions annually, is a major world player in this area.
