NUON IN WALLOON ENERGY MARKET

After noting that it wants to raise its market share to 20% in Flanders, the Dutch energy supply company Nuon has said it wants to overtake Luminus, the Limburg-based joint British (Centrica) operation. The Dutch company currently has 8% of the Flemish market; and, from January 1, it will be active in Brussels and the Walloon Country, when the energy market is completely liberalized. It’s intending to sell power and gas in the Walloon Country next year.

Nuon has 400,000 customers in Flanders, and the Walloon Country is next. It has bought a site near Charleroi, where it’s going to build a gas-fired plant. Nuon is currently active in The Netherlands, Flanders and Germany.
