GENK/LRM SCIENCE PARK

[BIZ: Genk, October 4]
The City of Genk and the Limburg (B) investment company LRM are going to set up a high quality science and business park on the former mining site of Waterschei in Genk. The first phase of equipping the site is scheduled for mid-2007. Genk’s municipal council and LRM will be working on the precise development of the program and the science park in the coming months. The focus will be on business active in the knowledge economy and innovation.

The LRM had sold the Waterschei mining site for the new business park to the City of Genk on October 4. Genk paid around EUR 11.5m to LRM for the 97-hectare mining area. The universities of Louvain and Hasselt will cooperate on the science project. The first companies are expected to be operational at the end of 2007.
