ESSEC STAKE IN NAVITELL
[BIZ: Beringen, February 2] Chinese authorities have called upon Navitell to help with the stream of foreign tourists coming to the Olympic Games in 2008, with their storyteller program. Navitell develops innovative forms of experience content via existing and new channels such as game consoles, mobile devices and Internet. One of our products is called the StoryTeller, which has been developed specifically for the tourist sector. Basically, the StoryTeller is a combination of a handheld computer (PDA), a GPS module and our StoryTeller software. The StoryTeller brings multi-sensorial experiences at the right time at the right person. It enables companies and organizations to bring their culture or history alive, to encourage new markets, to enhance their image, to capitalize existing content and to spread demand away from more traditional seasons. Initially developed for cyclists, the StoryTeller can be used in cars, motorcycles and boats, or just for a walk around the town. Users will be guided to wherever you want them to go and will automatically receive all the stories (through audio or video) of the environment that they are in. Because of the GPS module, the system automatically knows where the user is and can trigger the right media file. No more signs along the road, no more maps, no more paper guides, but a true interactive multimedia experience.
The Limburg telecom chain Essec has taken a minority stake in the Hasselt software and telecom company Navitell. This young company has seven employees and specializes in adding content to digital media, like Internet cell phones and PDA. Essec has put extra money into Navitell by raising capital and has a minority stake.
