SMART PERSONALIZED HANDGUNS

[BIZ: Liège, January 27]
A partnership between FN Herstal (the arms manufacturer) and Verichip is developing an RFID implant for their Browning Smith & Wesson handguns that would make the firearm functional only when used by an individual with an implanted chip. A scanner in the gun would recognize the owner.

Verichip is a radio frequency identification chip. These are 11mm RFID tags that are implanted in the fatty tissue beneath the right triceps. A scanner matches the chip with a stored ID number. It is used instead of biometric data such as fingerprints. Verichip identification tags are also used for other purposes.
