NOTARIAL MERGER

Notary Huub Joosten from Gulpen has joined his colleagues Piet Schutgens, Jo Eussen, and Guy Loyson in Valkenburg and Margraten. Their merged office is the largest notarial practice in South Limburg. It now offers more services because it has specialists in a range of legal fields, including property, family law, succession, and business law. Clients can make appointments in Valkenburg, Margraten, and Gulpen.

Notaries are concerned with official deeds and documentation, but they also intend to offer consultancy services in respect of wills, donations and cohabitation agreements. They also deal with succession in business and the establishment of limited companies. There are now 12,000 notaries in The Netherlands, 100 fewer than a couple of years ago. A change in the law in 2000 which allowed them to set their own rates opened the way for liberalization among notaries, and this has led to competition and mergers.
