55,000 VEHICLES FOR FORD GENK

[BIZ: Genk, January 9]
The Ford plant in Genk is going to produce 55,000 more vehicles in 2006 than in 2005. Last year 180,000 Mondeos were produced and this year it will go up to 235,000. The increase in production is due to the new models: the sports activity vehicle [SAV, see Ford S max article. Ed], which will start in the course of March, and in April a start will be made on the Galaxy. Production of the new Mondeo will start in 2007.

Increased production is not only good for Ford but also for its suppliers, with which it’s directly linked to by conveyor belts, these include Lear Corporations, SML/SMG, Collins & Aikman, and TDS. These companies will be employing 240 extra staff this year.

At Ford itself there will be extra work for 900 people: 600 temporary staff will be taken on in 2006, and 300 were already employed in 2005.
