WINDMILLS IN LOMMEL

[BIZ/INFRA: Lommel, December 21]
Gislom NV, in cooperation with Arcopar, Aspiravi, and Hefboom, has opened its first wind park. There are four windmills on the site at the Umicore location in Lommel. The investment in the turbines was EUR 9.4m, and a cooperative agreement was concluded with Hansen Transmissions in Lommel. The turbines were equipped with Hansen’s cogwheels and the company offered the opportunity of gaining practical experience.

The wind park has four turbines, each with 2,000KW and mast height of 100m. The diameter of the sails is 80m and the height to the tip is 140m. A windmill of this type weighs 318 tons, and the turbines together produce 12,000,000KW annually. This is enough power for 3,700 families.

Gislom is also looking for a permit to build a park with four windmills at Gistel.

Arco is a financial group with a share in Dexia. Aspiravi is concerned with the production of sustainable environment-friendly energy and the municipal shareholders of the four inter-communal utilities Interelectra, IVEG, PBE, and WVEM. The Hefboom organization supports the development of business with a social conscience in Flanders and Brussels, and is known as a financier and advisor in the social economy.
