Scia, the specialized software developer for construction, is going to provide software solutions in India. Thus far Scia has primarily been active in Western Europe with its own branches and agents for the sale of 15 customized versions — in respect of local legislation and construction methodology — of its software. The software will be used to design office buildings, factories, bridges, football stadiums, etc.

Last summer Scia started a branch in Madras. Six software engineers have been trained and are charged with modifying the existing software for the Indian market. Scia works with a local distributor for sales. There is only one local producer of construction software in India, which means that there is a major potential market there, and in view of the fact that English is a lingua franca in these circles in India no new language version has to be developed.
