CALL FOR INVESTORS IN EISDEN

[BIZ: Maasmechelen, November 25]
The Limburg investment group LRM, the owner of the former mining site in Eijsden (Maasmechelen), Belgian Limburg, is calling for potential investors for the, as yet, undeveloped city-zoned area of 30 hectares. In the northwest, the first national Flemish park is under development and in the east the project borders on the factory outlet center belonging to Value Retail. There is also the Euroscoop cinema complex in that location and there will also soon be a hotel in the main building.

There have been a number of ideas about developing this site, including those from the Maasmechelen Leisure Valley, the Campine Regional Landscape area and Maasland, who have produced their master plan for the development of the access to the National Park. Finally, LRM Yield Solutions is going to investigate the commercial options.

LISOM, a subsidiary of LRM, is putting out a call for potential investors and developers, who should make themselves known by December 19. The idea is to get the potential developers and investors together and examine ideas that are feasible.

The zoning regulations have to be taken into account, but as far as this is concerned, the province is going to pay attention to the interests of the private parties. The Flemish government is also envisaging extra financial incentives and in its decision of December 13, 2002, it reserved a sum of EUR 20m for the development of this access area to the National Park to provide public infrastructures. So the objective is to find public-private partners.
