In a comparative test of Session Initiation Protocol, SIP-Compatible Unified Messaging Systems, carried out by the Network Computing magazine, ‘HiPath Xpressions’ developed by Cycos AG for Siemens was said to have an impressive price/performance relationship.

For the test at the Real-World Labs of Syracuse University, NY, three systems were chosen. There are currently few providers of Unified Messaging / Unified Communications solutions that support SIP, the standard technology for Voice over IP - an important Indicator for the future viability of UM/UC solutions and the innovative strengths of the producer.

The assessment noted that Cycos-Siemens' HiPath, which came second, provided excellent integration paths into LDAP-based directories and enterprise message stores and provided the most control over system management and configuration. It added that HiPath should be on anyone's shortlist for UM products, because of its top-flight voicemail-only functionality and conventional UM performance, all at a low price.

Cycos is among the early-adaptors on the production side and is compatible with Open Source IP-PBX´s and new solutions from Linux, Unix und SUN.
