CHEMICAL BOOSTER

[BIZ: Maastricht, October 11]
The Intereg project ‘Process Industry 2010’ can rely on a provincial contribution of around EUR 90,000 from the budget. It will also get EUR 25,000 from the province in national funding to promote sustainable business. In concrete terms it concerns the supply of trained staff in the chemical industry, putting cross-border cooperation into a concrete form and encouraging enterprise to go in for sustainable business and the exchange of knowledge.

The chemicals industry is a mainstay of the economy in the central Benelux area and also in the economy of Limburg, directly providing 10,000 jobs and a further 10,000 indirectly.

Good cross-border connections are important for sustainable employment in the chemical sector in the clusters in the Benelux Central or Fiddle area in Flanders and the southern Netherlands. It is also essential that sufficient people are trained in the chemical and allied industries. The DSM practice location at the Chemelot site in Sittard-Geleen will be part of a new training in relevant technologies such as metal work, electronics, installation, and process technology.
