TOUCAN TELCO COMES SOUTH

[BIZ: Rotterdam, September 28]
The Netherlands now has a new Telco called Toucan, which is offering services under the ToucanTalk brand. Toucan is the trade name and consumer brand of IDT-Europe, a branch of the USD 2,5bn IDT Corporation, an international telecom and entertainment company. In the Netherlands, it means a cheap telephone service for a fixed monthly rate of EUR 7,95. This allows unlimited regional and national calls 24/7 and offers very competitive rates for international calls. Anyone in the Netherlands with a KPN fixed line connection can use Toucan. The system was introduced in the UK in 2003.

Peter Kamps in ‘Dagblad de Limburger’ writes that Toucan is beginning a service center in Limburg, currently located at the Technohouse in Heerlen. It employs 15. The number of jobs should rise to 50 in 2006 and to 200 in 2007. Limburg was chosen because of its multilingual population and access to the Belgium market. Toucan wants to employ Walloons and Flemings, in its Belgium operations. The company is being assisted by LIOF in establishing itself in Limburg and by the Mammoet group, a cooperative association, specializing in recruiting staff for costumer service centers.
