CHOCOLATE MELTS TOGETHER

[BIZ: Eupen, September 10]
In mid-2002 the Stollwerck company took over the Eupen Chocolaterie Jacques and also the Swiss company of Belgian origin, Barry-Callebaut. Now the company wants to market the two varieties of chocolate under a joint label in order to compete with the market leader, the Kraft Group, which produces Côte-d'Or and other brands like Milka and Toblerone. The new logo has a modern Jacques logo and underneath ‘Callebaut — Finest Quality’.

In 2005 Jacques produced 18,000 tons of chocolate at Eupen and they will be moving towards 25,000 tons in future, the limit for the 200 workers. Fifty percent of the chocolate leaving the company currently falls under the Jacques brand.

A party to celebrate the link between Callebaut and Jacques will be held in the Koekelberg Basilika in Brussels on September 25.
